Home :: Book of Mormon :: Second Nephi :: Chapter 29
Many gentiles shall reject the Book of Mormon—They shall say: We need no more Bible—The Lord speaks to many nations—He will judge the world out of the books thus written. Between 559 and 545 B.C.
- But behold, there shall be many—at that day when I shall proceed to do a marvelous work among them, that I may remember my covenants which I have made unto the children of men, that I may set my hand again the second time to recover my people, which are of the house of Israel;
- And also, that I may remember the promises which I have made unto thee, Nephi, and also unto thy father, that I would remember your seed; and that the words of your seed should proceed forth out of my mouth unto your seed; and my words shall hiss forth unto the ends of the earth, for a standard unto my people, which are of the house of Israel;
- And because my words shall hiss forth—many of the Gentiles shall say: A Bible ! A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible.
- But thus saith the Lord God: O fools, they shall have a Bible ; and it shall proceed forth from the Jews, mine ancient covenant people. And what thank they the Jews for the Bible which they receive from them? Yea, what do the Gentiles mean? Do they remember the travails, and the labors, and the pains of the Jews, and their diligence unto me, in bringing forth salvation unto the Gentiles?
- O ye Gentiles, have ye remembered the Jews, mine ancient covenant people? Nay; but ye have cursed them, and have hated them, and have not sought to recover them. But behold, I will return all these things upon your own heads; for I the Lord have not forgotten my people.
- Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews?
- Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?
- Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also.
- And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and that I speak forth my words according to mine own pleasure. And because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another; for my work is not yet finished; neither shall it be until the end of man, neither from that time henceforth and forever.
- Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words ; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written.
- For I command all men, both in the east and in the west, and in the north, and in the south, and in the islands of the sea, that they shall write the words which I speak unto them; for out of the books which shall be written I will judge the world, every man according to their works, according to that which is written.
- For behold, I shall speak unto the Jews and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the Nephites and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the other tribes of the house of Israel, which I have led away, and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto all nations of the earth and they shall write it.
- And it shall come to pass that the Jews shall have the words of the Nephites, and the Nephites shall have the words of the Jews; and the Nephites and the Jews shall have the words of the lost tribes of Israel; and the lost tribes of Israel shall have the words of the Nephites and the Jews.
- And it shall come to pass that my people, which are of the house of Israel, shall be gathered home unto the lands of their possessions; and my word also shall be gathered in one. And I will show unto them that fight against my word and against my people, who are of the house of Israel, that I am God, and that I covenanted with Abraham that I would remember his seed forever.
- And they gathered their brethren, and sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the king, by the words of the L ORD, to cleanse the house of the L ORD.
- And the priests went into the inner part of the house of the L ORD, to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the L ORD into the court of the house of the L ORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad into the brook Kidron.
- Now they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month came they to the porch of the L ORD : so they sanctified the house of the L ORD in eight days; and in the sixteenth day of the first month they made an end.
- Then they went in to Hezekiah the king, and said, We have cleansed all the house of the L ORD, and the altar of burnt offering, with all the vessels thereof, and the shewbread table, with all the vessels thereof.
- Moreover all the vessels, which king Ahaz in his reign did cast away in his transgression, have we prepared and sanctified, and, behold, they are before the altar of the L ORD.
- ¶ Then Hezekiah the king rose early, and gathered the rulers of the city, and went up to the house of the L ORD.
- And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he goats, for a sin offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the L ORD.
- So they killed the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and sprinkled it on the altar: likewise, when they had killed the rams, they sprinkled the blood upon the altar: they killed also the lambs, and they sprinkled the blood upon the altar.
- And they brought forth the he goats for the sin offering before the king and the congregation; and they laid their hands upon them:
- And the priests killed them, and they made reconciliation with their blood upon the altar, to make an atonement for all Israel: for the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel.
- And he set the Levites in the house of the L ORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king’s seer, and Nathan the prophet: for so was the commandment of the L ORD by his prophets.
- And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.
- And Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering upon the altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song of the L ORD began also with the trumpets, and with the instruments ordained by David king of Israel.
- And all the congregation worshipped, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded: and all this continued until the burnt offering was finished.
- And when they had made an end of offering, the king and all that were present with him bowed themselves, and worshipped.
- Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise unto the L ORD with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshipped.
- Then Hezekiah answered and said, Now ye have consecrated yourselves unto the L ORD, come near and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the L ORD. And the congregation brought in sacrifices and thank offerings; and as many as were of a free heart burnt offerings.
- And the number of the burnt offerings, which the congregation brought, was threescore and ten bullocks, an hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: all these were for a burnt offering to the L ORD.
- And the consecrated things were six hundred oxen and three thousand sheep.
- But the priests were too few, so that they could not flay all the burnt offerings: wherefore their brethren the Levites did help them, till the work was ended, and until the other priests had sanctified themselves: for the Levites were more upright in heart to sanctify themselves than the priests.
- And also the burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace offerings, and the drink offerings for every burnt offering. So the service of the house of the L ORD was set in order.
- And Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, that God had prepared the people: for the thing was done suddenly.
